* Ugly Things vol.1 (Australian Rock '65-67) *

Sommige platen wil je nooit meer kwijt. Vooral als je er lang achterheen gezeten hebt.
De LP Ugly Things vol.1 bijvoorbeeld, in 1980 uitgebracht door het Australische Raven Records.
Bij een vriend gehoord, pas jaren later een eigen exemplaar gescoord, crate-digging in Antwerpen.
Op de terugweg ging het nog bijna mis, liftend langs de snelweg. Duim omhoog, in wind en regen,
toen het plastic tasje van platenzaak Brabo dat ik tussen de mijn knieën had geklemd gegrepen werd door een windvlaag en wegwaaide. Achtervolging in paniek, van de weg af,  over het talud.
Had ik bijna beet, waaide de hoes uit de tas. Daarna rolde de plaat weg, in binnenhoes-van-cellofaan. Uiteindelijk kwam ik met de schrik vrij, alles net op tijd onder controle, plaat zowaar onbeschadigd!

The Missing Links (from Sydney) - 'You're Driving Me Insane' (1965)
their best-of-CD 'Driving You Insane' (1999 Half A Cow Records) offers more great Missing Links-originals, most notably 'Wild About You' (covered by The Saints on their '77-debut-album) and 'Speak No Evil'. Plus worthwhile covers of 'Some Kinda Fun' ('63 Chris Montez), 'Don't Give Me No Friction ('65 The Green Beans) and 'Mama Keep Your Big Mouth Shut' (Bo Diddley, Pretty Things).

The Vince Maloney Sect (Sydney) - 'No Good Without You' (1966)
- originally a Motown-song, written by William Stevenson, first recorded by Marvin Gaye ('65).
- '65 cover by The Birds (UK), lead guitar by Ron Wood (pre-Jeff Beck Group, Faces. Stones).
- a '69 cover by The Birds from Perth, Australia - including emigrated (British) Birds-roadies -
  can be found on 3CD-set 'Looking Back - 80 Mod, Freakbeat & Swinging London Nuggets'
- version by The Vince Maloney Sect inspired by Ron Wood & The Birds (UK)
